Let Congress Know!

The Senate Finance committe, under the questionable leadership of Max Baucus, to few surprises released a fatally flawed bill stripped of a public option. Now more than ever, it's crucial Congress continues to hear from us. It is important not only to call, but to keep calling to keep up the pressure on elected officials, regardless of their committee memberships. The danger of a decrease in call volume at this critical time is the resultant perception that the public may by turning against meaningful health care reform, much less a public option.

The Environment

Call to Action
Stand up for the Environment

For the first time, Congress has passed a bill limiting green house gas emissions. The American Clean Energy and Security (ACES) Act, also known as the Markey-Waxman bill (HR 2454), now goes to the Senate where it faces a grueling battle. If ACES becomes law, the U.S. sets the stage for meaningful emissions control at this December’s world summit in Copenhagen where the fate of earth’s climate could be decided. China is on record as closely following our lead on this decision. If the bill fails or is weakened in the Senate, the two highest-polluting countries will likely present an ineffectual position at Copenhagen regarding the unrestricted growth of green house gases. The most important clock ever is ticking: Will this generation have the vision to ward off global warming by taking a stand to moderate emissions, or will special interests win again? Please urge our senators to pass ACES, especially the members of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee who will be a primary factor for this act. This may be our last chance.
